Well it's been a bit longer that originally planned but here's the second part of our update.
The first thing was my trip to Twycross Zoo....
... Everyone seemed to think that it was very strange that a group of people who only new each other from the Canon Digital SLR forum at www.dpreview.com should be getting together for a day to take photo's ![]()
The plan was for everyone to meet at a pub close to Twycross Zoo which is about 2.5 hours drive from home. I had hired a 300mm F2.8 L IS lens from a place here in London to take with me. This lens is pretty big and costs about £4,500 (hence the renting!!) I also discovered that one of the people coming lives about 1/2 a mile down the road and so arranged to give him a lift up.
Not much news from the day except that it was good fun meeting people who like the same stuff as me and a great day was had by all. There are some photos' that I took in this album. I quite like them although they were mostly taken though perspex or wire
Easter saw us away in York for the break. We needed to get away but didn't want to/couldn't afford to go overseas and in going to Yorkshire we could fit in a visit to Vic's great aunt Win and my rellies.
We drove up early on Friday morning and stopped of at a big designer shopping mall just outside York where we proceeded to spend hardly any money (no, it's true!) After a few hours there looking in the posh shops we parked in the middle of town and spent the afternoon walking around the very old and pretty city centre. There's a few photo's from the afternoon in this album.
Saturday saw us in Bridlington for an all too short visit with the relatives than it was back to the outskirts of York and our hotel.
Sunday we decided to go to Castle Howard. The biggest claim to fame was that this was where Brideshead Revisited was filmed. All I can say is WOW! The building was gigantic and the grounds were fantastic. While visiting we purchased a guide book and without a doubt it was the best one I've seen for a stately home. One very funny thing is that the owner has recently got divorced and remarried. The book was obviously printed in bulk just before this happened and so has an addendum inserted with a revised family history and tree.
In the afternoon we drove around the Yorkshire coast through Scarborough and Whitby and stopped at Robin Hood Bay for the only decent fish and chips I've had in this country ![]()
Monday we decided to leave early and try and miss the traffic and so left the hotel at 09:00. We had a brilliant run home and arrived back in Rotherhithe at 12:30!
Since then not a lot has happened. I've had to do loads of cold calling for work (which I detest doing!) and Vic's been busy moving her team from building to building. Other time has been spent with our friends relaxing, eating and drinking.
UPDATE: He finished in five days eight hours, 29 minutes and 46 seconds and raised about 100,000 GBP for charity.
maybe! This guy is "running" the London marathon in an antique divers suit. The boots weigh 20lb each and the entire suit weighs 8 and a half stone!
His name is Lloyd Scott and was diagnosed as having leukaemia and underwent a bone marrow transplant in 1989. Since his recovery, Lloyd has been determined to show other sufferers of cancers and leukaemia that these types of illnesses can be beaten and overcome. you can read more about him here

OK - so here we go... the last update was made just after our wedding anniversary and covered xmas and our trips to Copenhagen and Brussels.
It's been 3 months since then and the big news in that time is that we went home to NZ for two weeks and had the pleasure of being at my brother's wedding.
We had two weeks to the day in NZ and it was nowhere near long enough! 14 days seems like a long time but we'd just got over our jet lag and it was time to get back on a plane! We flew direct there AND back and although it really is a long trip I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that that really is the way to do it - you only screw up your body clock once and I'm pretty sure that it's better to be 12 hours out rather that 8 then 4 (or something similar)
The wedding went very well, it was held at a place called The Winemakers Daughter just south of Otaki and luckily one of the two nice days we had out of 14 was the Saturday of the wedding (phew) The wedding was held outside and they had photos taken in the vineyard that is part of the estate and down at the beach. They were taken at about sunset and the light was just fantastic! (supposedly - we haven't seen any photos yet!) Selena looked stunning, my brother looked very handsome and the speeches were a hoot - what more could one want from a wedding? Wanna see some piccies?
While we were home we also went down to Christchurch for a night and saw Trace and Glen - they left the UK when Sam, their wee boy, was very young so it was nice to see how he's grown up (almost 3 now!) and also to see Niamh, their second child, who was about a year old. Vic and I stayed in town and I visited the casino and promptly lost 500 bucks! Luckily I had made at least that over the previous weeks on the pokies and by betting on the underdogs when the Superbowl was played ![]()
So anyway, we drag ourselves back to the UK and settle back into our normal lives.
For our wedding anniversary Vic had got us some tickets to go on the London Eye. She had to book them months in advance and we wake up on that Saturday morning to an absolutely stunning day - clear skies, no wind, mucho sun - perfect. We hop on the tube and head down there for our 12:30 "flight" as they call it only to find that the damn thing was broken! They had done a software update on the computers that control it and it went around too fast afterwards! We were absolutely gutted - got our money back and wandered down the river for a couple of hours. Not the way we had planned on spending our day but very pleasant none the less. We also walked over the Millennium bridge. It’s been closed for almost 2 years due to it swaying too much and making people ill. Engineers sorted the problem out and now it doesn’t sway at all – shame really.
The evening of the 16th of March found us in Reading at the wedding function of our friends Darren and Helen. They had got married in Barbados a couple of months prior and were having a party for all those people that couldn't make it/afford it/weren't invited to the actual wedding. There were a lot of people there from CSF (yes, the people that made me redundant) and it was great to catch up with them. It all finished about midnight and as we had about a 90 minute drive home I took it pretty easy. The scary thing is I set Darren and Helen up! I invited Darren to work drinks and sat them next to each other on purpose. It's the first time I have tried match-making and what a result!!!
Anyway that'll do for now - I'll do the next part before the end of the week and will cover my trip to the zoo, our Easter in York and life in general.
Well the London Marathon is over for another year. The course goes past about a block away from our house and instead of watching it lying in bed like the last 4 years! we got out in the sun and cheered everyone on.
We took a few pictures and the link can be found under the Recent Photo Album section on the left.
Still no update but I promise it'll be done within the next week.....
OK so the update isn't here yet
but what we have done is find some really dodgy scans of some of the photo's taken at our wedding reception.
There is a link in the "recent photo album" section to your left - check them out as some are very funny.
Hi everyone and welcome to our new look website.
Marc decided that he was sick and tired of coding each update by hand and wanted something that would:
a) Make life easier when creating a new update and would therefore..
b) Allow for more regular and timely updates ![]()
We will be updating this at least every week and maybe even more often - even if it's just to let you all know of a strange website that we think you should check out ![]()
You can leave comments on any of the entries and we'd love to hear your thoughts on our thoughts.
An update covering the last few months will be up soon.
Marc and Vic
